The Avengers Take Home The Crown!

Last Friday night, I went to Dolce Superclub to support my friends who were competing in the San Mig Strong Ice Crew Battle. I had huuuuuge faith that they were going to make it to the top, and they did! Literally killed it out there on the dance floor. Crazy, sick swagger and moves. IMBA team!

Dress Me Corporate

About 2 months ago or so (I honestly can’t remember when exactly anymore), I went on a little shopping spree to get myself some corporate clothes in preparation for my then, hopeful and supposed job. It was one of the ways I was actively and expectantly waiting on the Lord :)

I scheduled my shopping day on SM Megamall’s SALE day for SM Advantage Card holders :D That meant an additional 10% discount on selected items! I of course, hit Forever 21 and checked out what items they had on sale. To my luck, I found a hefty amount of great pieces that were on a HUGE sale!

Regular-priced rings that were 10% off coz I had an SM Advantage Card! :>

Floral dress/long blouse as seen in this look:

HOHOHO. Check out that SALE price! :D

                                                        Plum tulip skirt

                                                    Crazy discount #2

                                            Purple houndstooth Harems

                                                            Crazy right??

                                                 My new corporate collection :)

Assorted tops, bottoms and shoes from Forever 21 and SM Department Store

So yeah, I’m sharing this with you, because as always, I’m a sucker for sales ;) Plus, I highly recommend that you check out F21 when it goes on sale. I know you sorta have to fight your way through the crowd to get your hands on those racks of clothes, but it’s worth it. A little ruthlessness (at kaunting sipag lang) when shopping comes in handy sometimes. Harhar.

I’m REALLY looking forward to starting work. I can finally put these to good use. Corporate life, here I come!!

BE the right person, and God will BRING the right person to you.

Because my friend Teri and I absolutely love Cameron Mitchell <3 Here’s a new cover from him :)

Beatles + Cameron <3 How can you go wrong? :D

The Pain, Perils, and Problems of a Backward System

WARNING: This is a rant blog entry. If you’re not in the mood to read about my painful experience with our country’s backward system and processes, then I suggest you pass on this.

NBI CLEARANCE. I was told that I needed to secure this as part of my pre-employment paperwork. I thought nothing much of it… figured it was just another government document like my TIN or SSS. I did however, wonder why whenever I mentioned it, people would shudder, and give me a bad face. They kept questioning me, asking me twice or even thrice if I was sure I needed it. Well, after today, I know exactly why.

Getting your NBI Clearance is a nightmare. I’m not exaggerating. It’s painful. Literally.

So, after some research and interviews, I decided that the best office branch for me to go to was at Quezon City Hall. I considered the one in Robinson’s Metroeast, but I read several blog entries relaying in detail that it was NOT a pleasant experience. A friend of mine told me hers didn’t take too long at QC, and a saw a few more comments online that it wasn’t as bad as the others. I figured it was convenient also, since it was pretty near.

Stupid me.

I got up at 5am, and got to the venue at 6am. Already at that time, I was met by a flock of people. Apparently some were there by 1am. Sleepover? O.O

An hour passed, zero progress. It was only by 8am that it was announced that numbers were going to be given out. Those who had a number could process their clearance within the day. Those without, in the officer’s words, were told, “Ok lang yan. May bukas pa naman.”

The numbers themselves were already messed up. Why? Because they weren’t even in order. Mine was 78, while some person who was way behind me got a number 4. SO… what was the point of it? We didn’t get called by number. We just had to present it when we reached the counter. So much for using those as means of protecting against line cutting.

The lines. There were 3 windows total that you had to go to. One was to pay and receive the application form, the second was for encoding your form, and the third was to take your picture and thumbprints. (Oh, there was a 4th one, but that was just for releasing… didn’t really have to line up for that.) 3 windows…. doesn’t sound too bad right? Wrong.

Why? Because every line was incredibly long. AND, after going through one window, you had to line up all over again to proceed to the next window. Mind you, each line extended way back….. passed the covered area where the office was…. under the sun… the scorching heat. To add to that, the lines were snail-paced. Slow as hell. There were only two cashiers who released the forms, and the encoder took forever to type your information. I saw it. I was facing the computer screen, and I watched each letter take decades to be typed. I seriously wanted to grab the keyboard and type it myself.

Total amount of time standing in line: 8 and a half hours. There were no chairs, so a lot of us resorted to sitting down… well, anywhere. On the sidewalk, on the floor, whatever. My feet literally died. If only they could talk, they would probably curse me. And my back? My lovely pain-prone back? It started acting up again, I felt muscle spasms happening and shortness of breath. Got lightheaded too. Well, I guess aside from not having a proper place to sit (with a backrest!), the crowd and heat got to me. Claustrophobic? Yes.

To top it all of, after those LOOONG hours of waiting, I left that place WITHOUT my clearance. All I got was my receipt back with a date written when I should come back to claim it. WOW. All of that, and I still have to come back. Beats me why they couldn’t release it then and there. I’m sure I don’t have a case against me. I didn’t commit any crime. And I think my parents made my name unique enough so I won’t have someone who shares the same name. So yeah, why?? =((

This is the line outside the covered area where the office proper is. This is where I started.

When you finally reach the covered area, you have to go through THIS sea of people.

A tired mother and daughter. A lot of us resorted to this when our legs and feet couldn’t take standing anymore.

(Forgive the quality of the pictures… they’re kind of crappy, I know :/ Took these with just my cellphone.)

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not complaining that I had to go through this. I completely understand and accept that this is part of getting hired. And I am more than willing to do everything it takes to make sure that I start working already. What frustrates me is how completely inefficient, and even ridiculous the “system” is. If I can even call it a system. It’s not only inefficient… as I said, it’s painful. People standing for hours under the sun on the streets, with no real place to sit down, and people waiting in line in a crowded area without making any progress for a significant amount of time is just mean.

Maybe they were undermanned, I don’t know. Regardless of that, with a system that works— one that’s organized and has proven to produce results in a decent amount of time— should make life easier… for everybody.

So yes, today I was reminded that our country still has a LOOOONNNGGG way to go before reaching the other countries ahead of, or have already overtaken us. It’s just sad and frustrating to think how backward our country is. With just these standard government procedures, hirap na hirap na tayo. I know it’s not an excuse, but no wonder people resort to fixers, or try to find some way around the system. I’m not justifying their actions, because I’m a law-abiding citizen, but think about it. If our systems and procedures were organized and efficient, people wouldn’t and shouldn’t have a problem with it. Each step wouldn’t be such a hassle and a pain. Everyone, or at least more people would obey, submit, and stick to the system.

A system that works well is one way to promote submission to authority and proper civil responsibility.

So please, dear government, rather that addressing useless “issues” like planking or whatnot, please fix these systems and encourage employment.

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

True Beauty = True Faith

Miss Universe 2011 Q&A:

Fox: “Would you change your religious beliefs to marry the person you love? Why or why not? “

Supsup: ” If I had to change my religious beliefs, I will not marry the person that I love. Because the first person that I love is GOD who created me. And I have my faith and my principles. And these what makes me who I am. And if that person loves me, he should love my God too, Thank you.

Ms. Shamcey Supsup is an epitome of a woman beautiful from the inside out. She put her faith first, and for that, she is someone I truly look up to. She is a powerful reminder to all of us women, and men alike, that God is and should always be our first Love. I firmly believe that the greatest beauty any woman can possess is strong faith, and a deep relationship with the Lord.

3rd Runner Up or not, she is a proud Princess of the King of the Universe, and that is where her true victory lies.

Thank you for being an inspiration to all us women, Ms. Shamcey Supsup. Congratulations for bringing pride not only to our country, but above all, to our One True King.

NYFW: Rachel Zoe

Ok. I just HAD to reblog this, because I absolutely LOVE the entire collection. Rachel Zoe is AMAZING!! <3

WhatIWore: I think whenever a designer puts together a collection and makes you want to be that girl, it’s a job well done.  After seeing the Rachel Zoe Spring Summer 2012 collection, I want to run out and find myself a long, chiffon maxi skirt!  The presentation was flawless and Rachel is a hell of a lot taller than I thought she’s be. Six inch platforms perhaps?

And the woman of the hour…

Love That Leopard

I’ve always loved animal print. Lately though, I’ve been addicted to one in particular: LEOPARD. It never fails to catch my eye, and no matter what you wear it with, it always looks stylish. Of course, there’s the danger of going overboard with print pieces, especially if you’re dealing with animal prints. You don’t want to look tacky, right? :)) So, if I’m wearing one statement animal print piece, I usually pair it up with something plain so I keep it funky, but still tasteful.

That’s what I did with this look. I put together my leopard print trousers with a simple, loose, white tank, added a black blazer, and topped it off with killer heels. (I used the word killer, coz that’s what my Mom literally said when she saw them. HAHA.)

Here’s how it turned out:

Found these JC-inspired heels from Jellybean! I was so happy to finally find a pair that I could try on (the ones I found were all online)! To my luck, they had it in my size! Last pair pa. Thank the stars! :)

Gold and earth colors for accessories. Lookie at my newly painted yellow-happy nails! :)

I bought this blazer for its embellishments and striped cuff design. Aside from the fact that it’s comfy and fits well too :) Got it from my favorite boutique in Hongkong called In Fashion. Check it out the next time you go to HK! They have great stuff at really affordable prices!

                                             Loving that Leopard!

Sunday Food Days

Yesterday, my family continued our Eastwood food trip :) We tried out a new place called Komrad. It’s on the 2nd floor veranda, near the connecting overpass to City Walk.

The food there was a take on Asian fusion dishes. We tried the sizzling siomai, steamed siomai (with Indian spices), chicken kumpao, crispy duck, spinach, noodles, and fried rice. To be honest, everything was just alright… nothing really stood out for my taste. The real downer were the portions. Small servings, but pricy :/ So, I can’t say we were exactly satisfied with that lunch. In terms of value for your money, I’ve been to much better places. Another reason why I also probably didn’t enjoy it too much was that almost all the dishes were spicy! If you know me, then you know that I have LOW tolerance for spicy food :)) So yeah, couldn’t enjoy too much :( If you like spicy though, then maybe you’d like it here more.

At least we can say we tried it out though! And that’s another check for our Eastwood food trip checklist :p

Of course, Sunday lunch wouldn’t be complete without some Red Mango for dessert :) I had my usual cup of mango, crushed graham and Dezato mochi toppings on original flavor. Red Mango always makes my day ;)

REVERB: September 2, 2011

CCF Eastwood’s first Worship Night. It was a night of praise, song and worship to our Lord. I was deeply reminded of how awesome God is, and how, when we truly understand this, we fall to our knees.

It didn’t matter if you could carry a tune or not. What mattered was how our hearts came together in unison to worship the Lord. True passion filled that room, and I was so blessed to be there. I was renewed, energized and refueled by Him. He reminded me that He is in control of everything, and that no matter how discouraging our problems or how difficult our situation may be, we have a BIG God, and He knows what is best for us.

Reverb is now going to be a monthly event, and the next will be on October 7 :) I encourage everyone to come and worship our Lord through this special night! Hope to see you there! :)

Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like you have loved me

Break my heart from what breaks yours
Everything I am for your kingdoms cause
As I go from nothing to

Hosanna in the highest

So much has been given to me. I have no time to ponder over that which has been denied.

Now THAT’S gratitude :)
